Many apartment buildings are conveniently located near the campus. Some are within walking distance, while others are a short bus or bike ride from campus.
Things to consider when looking for an apartment:
- Time to find the right place: It may take a few days to find an apartment, so you may want to arrange to stay in a hotel near campus while you are looking. When you find a suitable apartment complex, you will need to contact the manager to find out what is available.
- Furnished vs. unfurnished: Most apartments in the area are not furnished. Be sure to confirm what is included (i.e.: refrigerator, furniture etc.) in the furnished apartments.
- Leases: Renters are required to sign a contract/lease that can cover 3 to 12 months. Carefully read the contract/lease before signing it, because your landlord has the right to keep your deposit if you break the contract/lease.
- Rent: Rents in the nearby area range from $940 to $1,290 for a studio to $1,150 to $1,845 for a two-bedroom apartment. Be sure to ask which utilities (such as electricity, water, gas, trash) are covered by the apartment complex. Almost all apartments will require a deposit before you move in, and an application processing fee.
