Studying for a semester or two at a university in another country can be a great cultural and academic learning experience. We offer Semester Abroad @ CSUF.

In order to study university-level courses for credit in University Semester Abroad @ CSUF, foreign students must demonstrate an advanced level of academic English skill. The chart below is a general guideline used to determine whether a student is ready to take fulltime university courses or a combination of English and university classes.

General TOEFL guidelines for Semester Abroad @ CSUF

520-533: Students may take 6 units of undergraduate Open University classes, plus 12 hours of ALP classes (composition and reading)

533-547: Students may take 9 units of undergraduate classes as Open University students, plus 6 hours of ALP classes (composition)

550+: Students can take 12 units of undergraduate university classes as Open University students

Application Requirements

An F-1 visa is required to attend University Study Abroad @ CSUF. To receive an I-20, please submit the following items.

  1. Signature of the financial sponsor (on the back of the application)
  2. Original bank document or scholarship verification of support funds
  3. Application processing fee of $100 in the form of a check or international money order payable to Cal State Fullerton
  4. Photocopy of passport information pag
  5. Original high school or university transcript with in-progress courses

Applications should be received 6 weeks before each start date to allow enough time to process the application, prepare the I-20 and mail it in time for the student to obtain a student visa from the U.S. embassy or consulate.

Health Insurance: Health insurance is available through the ALP office.  Click here for details. Qualifying Health Insurance is mandatory for all F-1 and J-1 visa students.
